Privacy policy
This policy explains what ClipAlerts ("we") collects when you use clipalerts.app, the ClipAlerts Twitch extension and the OBS overlay, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. The short version: we only keep what the service needs to work, we don't sell anything, and we don't run ads or tracking.
What we collect
When you log in with Twitch. Twitch tells us your Twitch user ID, username, display name and profile picture. We don't ask Twitch for your email address.
If you connect your channel as a streamer. We also store the access tokens Twitch gives us so we can download your clips, read your moderator list and, if you turn it on, manage the one Channel Points reward we create. These tokens are encrypted when stored. We also keep your channel settings and the list of moderators you add.
When you submit a sound. We store the clip's public details from Twitch (its ID, title, link, date, game and who clipped it), your name as the submitter, the part you trimmed, and the sound and video files we make from it. To let you trim, we keep a copy of the full clip's audio and video for up to 24 hours, then delete it.
When a sound plays. We record which sound played, when, how it was triggered (Bits, Channel Points, a free play or a test) and the display name of the viewer who triggered it.
Bits purchases. Twitch handles all payments. We only receive a signed receipt with the Twitch transaction ID, your Twitch user ID, the product and the number of Bits, and we keep that record. We never see payment details.
Channel Points. When someone redeems the ClipAlerts reward, Twitch sends us the redemption, including the viewer's name and the text they typed. We use the text to find the sound and don't store it. We keep Twitch's message IDs for two days so the same redemption isn't processed twice.
The Twitch extension. Twitch gives the extension a signed token with your channel and an anonymous viewer ID. Your real Twitch user ID is only included if you choose to share it, which is needed to use free plays.
Free plays. If your sounds earn free plays, we keep a count per channel.
Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard request logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, for running and securing the service.
Cookies
ca_sessionkeeps you logged in for up to 30 days. Only a scrambled copy of it is stored on our side.ca_oauthis a short-lived cookie (10 minutes) that protects the Twitch login from tampering.
That's all. No analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
What's public
Approved sounds are public: their name, the clip details, the submitter's display name and play counts appear on the channel's moments page, in the Twitch extension and on stream. Pending and rejected submissions are only visible to you, the streamer and their moderators.
Who we share data with
- Twitch, to log you in, look up and download clips, run the extension, handle Bits and Channel Points, and (if the streamer turns it on) post a chat message when a sound plays.
- Our hosting provider (Railway), which runs the servers and stores the database and files.
We don't sell or rent personal data, and we don't share it for advertising. Fonts and scripts are served from our own site. The only outside requests a page makes are for clip thumbnails, which load from Twitch.
How long we keep things
- Login sessions: up to 30 days.
- Full clip copies used for trimming: up to 24 hours.
- Sounds: until the streamer deletes them or the channel is removed.
- Play history, Bits records and free-play counts: for as long as the channel uses ClipAlerts, unless you ask us to delete them.
Your choices
- Streamers can delete any sound from their dashboard at any time.
- You can disconnect ClipAlerts from your Twitch account under Twitch Settings, Connections. That stops our access to your account.
- You can ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to delete it, using the contact below.
Children
ClipAlerts is for people who are allowed to use Twitch. It isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Big changes will be pointed out on the site.
